Third YSP Oceania Webinar #Australia
IAYSP Oceania hosted the third IAYSP Oceania Webinar on November 20 2020; with the theme, Environmental Action in Oceania.
Mr. Ronnie Sodusta, President of IAYSP Asia Pacific 2, and Asia Pacific 2 Regional President Rev. Masaichi Hori, gave the opening and welcoming addresses.
President of IAYSP Oceania Daniel Meadows, presided as Master of Ceremonies, and Secretary-General Amon Watanabe supported as technical staff. YSP Samoa President Meehwa Suafa, also provided moderator support for the “talanoa (free talk) session.”
Local speakers included: from Tonga, Ms. Dorothy Foliaki, who works in the Department of Environment; and from Australia, Mr. Michael Nolan, who has worked as a climate change consultant in various places; including in the office of the President of the United States of America during the Obama administration.
The webinar concluded with a free talk session, which gave an opportunity for young leaders to engage directly with each other and the speakers.
They shared many ideas including: how to engage youth in tackling climate action and some of the challenges young people face when seeking change. Panelist and participant response was positive, with many participants expressing their good impressions of the standard the speakers provided and their excitement toward working closely together in the future. Talanoa panelists included: Janelle Toatapu from Niue, Ra’eed Ali from Fiji, Grace Ah Young, and Okilani Mariner from Samoa.
