Peace Designer Las Vegas #USA

From June 24 – 25, 2019, Youth and Students for Peace (YSP) held a Peace Designer Seminar at the International Peace Education Center (IPEC) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The seminar was participated by twenty-eight young adults.

Those participating were between ages eighteen to thirty-four and joined from across the country and as far as Hawaii. International YSP President, Dr. Robert Kittel, came to observe and gave a brief presentation on one of YSP’s projects, S!NERGY. Dr. Tyler Hendricks also attended and co-wrote the educational content of YSP’s “Four Family Loves” curriculum. The seminar was presented by both the YSP USA President, Naokimi Ushiroda, and National Program Coordinator, Naria Gaarder.

The participants were grouped into teams based on the area of the country they lived in, and worked together to create projects. A total of six projects were designed addressing issues such as litter, how to beautify a city, disconnect between young and old, and the need of mentorship for youth.

Upon completion of the seminar, Jeffrey Silerio, a local from Las Vegas already leading service activities, was appointed as community YSP Coordinator.
