Online Training Session in Assisting the Elderly in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic #Moldova
On April 23, 2020, there was an online training session for young volunteers in assisting the elderly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was organized by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Moldova.
At this meeting, the young people were instructed by an epidemiologist on how to communicate to the elderly about the protective measures against COVID-19. Additionally, an experienced psychologist gave guidance regarding dialogue with the elderly on the phone, to support them emotionally during the quarantine period. In total, there were twenty-two participants present in this training.
On April 24, 2020, Youth and Students Moldova held an online webinar, “Training Young Volunteers on Communication with the Elderly.” This was about the new project inaugurated by United Nations Population Fund entitled, “Humanitarian Aid and Emotional Support from Young People for the Elderly in Moldova.” This was extended by Youth and Students for Peace Moldova to Plopi commune, Cantemir district, Moldova. A total of five young people were trained. The purpose of this action was:
•To protect the elderly, by involving the young generation creating intergenerational dialogue.
•Urge the elderly to comply with the conditions for their protection during the pandemic.
•Provide them with emotional support and communication.
•Provide material support to vulnerable elderly people: food and hygiene
