Growing Environmental Awareness Through Community Action #IAYSP Brazil
On December 14, 2025, YSP launched its environmental activities at Joanna Sposito State School, encouraging students to reflect on sustainability, responsibility, and the essential role of nature in our lives.
The initiative began with talks led by Douglas Kennichi, head of YSP’s environmental sector, together with members of his team. They highlighted the importance of viewing the school not only as a place of learning, but also as a shared living environment that deserves care and respect from everyone.
Joanna Sposito State School is home to a valuable green area with great potential, yet one that has long required attention. Through open discussions, students were invited to recognize both the challenges and opportunities of this space, helping them better understand their role in preserving the environment they use every day.
The talks emphasized the interdependence between people and nature, showing how individual choices—such as waste management and resource use—create collective impact. Students actively engaged with these ideas, recognizing sustainability as an essential part of responsible citizenship.
Building on these reflections, practical activities—such as cleaning and revitalizing the school’s outdoor areas—will be carried out by the students themselves. Beyond improving the physical space, these actions aim to foster cooperation, a sense of belonging, and socio-environmental responsibility.
More than a one-time activity, this initiative plants the seed of long-term change through empowering young people to see themselves as active contributors to a more sustainable future.
