On May 6 and 9, 2020, in collaboration with Restoring Lives Ministries International (RLMI), students and youth of IAYSP Liberia went to Margibi, Kakata city, benefiting around thirty-eight people.
Buckets, Clorox, face masks, and tide soap were given. A live interview with “Classic FM” of Kakata was held. The President of IAYSP Liberia explained their mission of identifying with the Liberian Christian Association of the Blind and with the Group of “77” Disabled Center. They donated sanitary materials to the centre.
The team asked about their basic needs and the names of the people there, which was an opportunity for the Secretary-General and the administrator of those places to express how they lost support from the government. These circumstances created a sense of abandonment and introduced difficulties for them to make repairs and purchase sufficient food and materials necessary for education.
As if a promise was made, the team went back three days later to answer those requests. Rice, vitae, pepper, oil, salt, and onions were brought, and a hand pump that had been inoperable for three weeks was successfully repaired.
Another interview was held, where the team expressed their gratefulness for the unique experience they had and the success of their mission – saying that there is more to come. They hoped for a lasting relationship that extends beyond a COVID-19 friendship.
