Visiting and Serving in the Orphanage #Zambia
IAYSP Zambia hosted a program with our partners VSI talk motivation and other youth organizations on March 12, 2020. Participants visited an orphanage in the southern part of Kamwala called, St. Lawrence Home of Hope. In celebration of Youth Day, IAYSP joined youth in the orphanage and offered a small donation to support the children. There were five participants representing IAYSP working together with approximately thirty youth in the orphanage.
St. Lawrence Home of Hope orphanage is a Catholic-run orphanage and is supported by the company DAPP. This orphanage only supports boys, sixty-five in total, with ages ranging from four to thirteen years old. There is a separate orphanage for girls in Chilanga.
The program started at 11:30am with the children playing together. There were various icebreakers and games that created a pleasant and joyous atmosphere for the children. The orphanage program director, Mr. Bout, expressed his thankfulness to everyone, encouraged IAYSP to continue this valuable work and asked us to return. The event ended at 2pm with a group photo and farewells.
